The Freshwood Grill was opened by chef/owner Dov Szava in 2005. As a chef, Dov has worked in places such as the Royal York Hotel, the York Club in Toronto and the Chateau Whistler in British Columbia. While travelling, he was inspired by the unique smoky taste of foods prepared on wood burning grills in the south western USA. With a wood burning grill in tow and a fresher, lighter approach to grilling, Dov returned to the neighbourhood where he grew up to open the Freshwood Grill in Roncesvalles Village.
The Freshwood Grill was a hit from the start. The relaxed, comfortable and funky interior has a wide appeal in the diverse Roncesvalles Village neighbourhood. Also, the commitment to serving fresh wood grilled flatbread, local ingredients, organic meat, fish, poultry and great daily specials, have made the Freshwood Grill a Roncesvalles destination.
In 2007, Dov opened the Freshwood Grill in Kensington Market. The colourful and vibrant market environment is a perfect compliment to the Freshwood Grill’s fresh market menu and creatively designed interior. The Freshwood Grill is a favourite drop in for local residents, market goers and for visitors to Toronto.
The Freshwood Grill brings its unique market fresh menu to the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto each summer from August to September. On-site catering and special events planning are also available.
